I have been thinking about this for a while and wanted to put this out there for you to think about and share your thoughts with me.
I want to know who you think should get to play the role…
We have seen numerous out spoken actors, Sir Ian McKellen being one of them, stating that gay actors are disregarded in Hollywood. Be it either; actors, directors, screen writers, or any other artists.
We have seen some successful LGBTQ+ roles that have been played by an actor who does not identify the same way as the character they are play. 2 examples that pop off the top of my head are; Eric McCormack in Will & Grace and Jeffrey Tambor in Transparent.
So with having said all that, I want to know what you think.
Should homosexual or bisexual roles only be played by actors that identify as homosexual or bisexual? What about transgendered roles? Should those only be played by transgendered individuals?
Would this also mean then that any actor that identifies under the LGBTQ+ umbrella continue to be disregarded for heterosexual or cis-gendered roles?
